Total Defence Day

(Written by Yun Jing)

Last Friday was Total Defence Day. We were doing some work in class when the alarm rang suddenly. We evacuated in an orderly manner and went to the parade square. I was very excited. After a short talk by Mr Chia, our teacher led us to the second storey to watch the fire engine enter the school. The firemen got off the fire engine and extinguished the fire. Then they checked if there were any sparks. I hope that, next year, the firemen will give us a chance to put out the fire.

On Friday, while were were in class, we heard a siren. Mrs Tay immediately took us to the parade square. Then, three firefighters demonstrated to us how to put out a fire. During recess, I went into the Rhino vehicle. It was fun. After that, a teacher helped me paint my arm with green and black paint. This is what soldiers use to camouflage themselves. I enjoyed myself very much that day.

We commemorated Total Defence Day in school on Friday. The SCDF came to our school to show us how to put out a fire using a fire extinguisher. During recess, we met the firefighters and even got to ride on the Rhino vehicle. There were also some teachers and parent volunteers who smeared some face paint on our faces and arms. It was enjoyable. After recess, we watched a performance about the fall of Singapore in 1942. In class, we talked about what we want to defend should there be a war.

Diligence and Perseverance

Diligence

Felicia Lim
I can show diligence by revising my work every day, listening to my teachers attentively and asking questions to find out more.

Estella Teh
I can show diligence by putting in effort in my school work and checking it carefully.

Shi Xiang
I can show diligence by checking the dictionary for the meaning of words which I don't know.

Perseverance

Shirene
I can show perseverance by not giving up when I find that learning to play the 'guzheng' is a difficult task. If I try my best, I can play a song.

Amanda Sim
I can show perseverance by not giving up when facing difficulties in my school work.

Roebhic
I can show perseverance by continuing to learn Chinese even if it is difficult for me, a non-Chinese pupil with non-Chinese parents. I will attend all the remedial lessons and do all my homework. If I do not well in a test, I will not give up but continue to study hard.

When You Believe

After recess, we sing 'When You Believe' while waiting for our teachers to lead us back to the class. Don't you think we sing well?
